Matt McDonald

Feature date(s): 06/04/2007

More people have heart attacks on Mondays than any other day. Not surprisingly, in 1982 Matt McDonald was born on one, and since then he's lived like each day is going to be his last. Home to more seemingly incongruent skills than anyone thought possible, Matt's brain is a very peculiar place.

Matt is a graduate student in mechanical engineering at the University of Delaware. His research interests include flapping-wing micro aerial vehicles, evolutionary robotics, and essentially anything found in the magical land where engineering, computer science, and cognitive psychology intersect.

He was a member of the 2005 and 2006 National Poetry Slam teams from Delaware, and the 2006 Delaware representative for the Individual World Poetry Slam. Matt lives in Newark, DE with his wife Hannah; his partner in sonic crime, Nigel (i, fanblades); and their fuzzy kitty Sadako.

Matt claims that mechanical engineering and poetry are really the same thing, but nobody seems to believe him. Also, he likes watermelons.
