She has appeared on Sophie's Parlor (WPFW), Joe's Place (WHUR) and shared the stage with recording artist, Kelly Price, congresswoman, Eleanor Holmes Norton, musician, Doria Roberts and spoken word artists, Alix Olson, Michelle Tea, Thea Hillman, Daphne Gottlieb.
Since 1999, she has been performing spoken word poetry in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. She has been invited to perform at venues such as mothertongue, Sistah Summerfest 2000, Codepink, Vision In Feminism Conference 2001 and 2003, Art-o-matic 2000, DC Black Pride 2004, INCITE! She has presented her spoken word workshop at The African American Women Writers Conferences, The Empower Program's Girls' Advisory Board, and various middle schools in the Washington, DC area.
Throughout her work as a poet and a social worker, she has maintained that there must be a place for women and girls to develop and express their truest selves. To that end, in 2001 Michelle created a monthly women's open mic, "Women's Words," to provide a safe and supportive environment for women poets. "Women's Words" is well into its third year.
She volunteers regularly at Sisterspace and Books, a black women owned bookstore that promotes literature by and for black women. More than just a bookstore, Sisterspace is a meeting place, a classroom, a support center, and a workshop space.
She also volunteers with mothertongue, an organization with the mission to uplift and empower women and girls. mothertongue provides monthly women's only open mic venues, workshops, and collaborations with other women's/girl's organizations in the DC metropolitan area.
Her spoken word CD Consider This… is due out in late summer. She can be reached at michelleinbold@aol.com and www.thepoetryfix.org |
