Sonya Renee Taylor

Captivating, Crazy and just plain Cool …. Somebody must be talking about spoken word artist Sonya Renee . Ms. Renee made her debut on the Washington, DC poetry scene in April of 2003. Barely one year after her first time on an open mic, Sonya Renee has performed on stages all over the United States sharing her own unique brand of “Reality Rub” poetry. From pontificating about the virtues of being a “ Thick ” sista to creatively cussing out a disrespectful brother Ms. Renee brings spit fire truth to the words she shares with audiences. Sonya Renee's mixture of humor, reality and a pinch of big black girl sass makes each listener feel like a Saturday afternoon phone call with their best girl friend or baby boo.

No stranger to the stage, Sonya Renee has studied theatre and music for 15 years but never thought to perform the words she had been writing since she was 7 years old. However, much like the Big Bang theory, the combination of Sonya's gifted poetry with a naturally entrancing stage presence was nothing short of explosive! Since exploding onto the scene, Sonya has won numerous slams, and served as a feature performer in venues across the country. She has opened for legendary R&B artist Peabo Bryson, shared stages with platinum artists Floetry and was selected to share her powerful words in front of one million people at the National March for Women's Lives. This year she adds to this roller coaster ride, team member of the D.C Baltimore National Slam Team. Still feeling like an infant in this art form Sonya's writing, words and wisdom will only continue to grow and expand. For Sonya Renee and those who hear her, they know that this magic is only…The beginning.
